![]() Impeach George Bush The Senate Must Investigate Domestic Spying Program Bill Frist has threatened to try to restructure the oversight function of the senate judiciary comitted to save his pally Bush the trouble of having to answer to anyone. It's a sham. Bill's got to know that we the people won't stand for it! Source: www.usalone.com, 2006-03-06 Candidate: Republican Party THE SENATE INTELLIGENCE COMMITTEE MUST HOLD HEARINGS TO INVESTIGATE THE ILLEGAL DOMESTIC WIRETAPS ACTION PAGE: http://www.millionphonemarch.com/wiretap_hearing.php On March 7, the Senate Intelligence Committee will hold a vote on whether to investigate the domestic wiretaps that the president has already admitted were performed in defiance of the FISA court. Bill Frist has now threatened to restructure the Senate Intelligence Committee itself to strip it of oversight responsibility if it even dares to investigate the president's dictatorial violations of the law. It is critically important that we speak out now to make sure justice prevails in this very winnable fight. With the votes against him three weeks ago, senator Roberts has already once unilaterally blocked a vote on this matter. We must raise every voice to make sure they know the people will not let them get away with it again. User Originated Comments: From: Robbie 2006-03-10 00:00:00 i believe that taxation and government oppression are essential contributors to poverty both here and worldwide. jesus said: "give to ceasar what is ceasar's and to god what is gods". for a couple of good reasons. first, ceasar or the government, in every way is in control of who makes money, how much they keep, how they can get it and how much tax they pay. while there is a certain amount of "play" in such cases, in general regulation of income methods (for instance, regulation of which kinds of home-based businesses are legal, which kinds of drugs are legal to sell, which properties can be used for commercial purposes and which can't, etc.) are the primary factor in wealth creation. these government-instated monopoly systems allow the people who take advantage of them early to press that advantage to the point of gaining extreme wealth for themselves and causing everyone else to be essentially servants of that system - we work for companies owned by other people, we buy our goods from companies owned by other people, we pay our rent/mortgage to banks owned by other people. - for those of us lucky to be above the severe poverty level - paul wrote "if you can become free, you should, but if don't worry if you can't, serve christ as a slave" (roughly). and this is a fair attitude. now, on to the unfortunate parts about what you wrote. 1) mexico and china are third world countries. china is run by a more repressive regime than the united states and the decision to leave that regime is a rational one. but the us isn't necessarily the number one choice anymore. the european union's standard of living for even its poor is higher than ours nowadays. china's population's poverty is caused, primarily, by their immense trade deficit with the united states. the goods and services produced in china that would be beneficial to chinese people to have are shipped to the united states at near-slave-level prices and tradede for cash which the chinese government then controls and invests in us savings bonds, rather than bringing any significant benefit into their own country. 2) mexico has been economically dominated by the united states for nearly two centuries. we use our military might, money and political savvy to control mexican elections and their economy. as a result, we get from mexico slave-level labor without having to extend to them the benefits of american citizenship. of course they'd prefer to live and work here where their slave-level wages could, at least be accompanied by a slightly higher standard of living. at the same time, you ever live in a mexican slum in california or texas, for instance, you know that the standard of living for those immigrants is terrifyingly low from the point of view of the land-owning cl-ss of americans - the relatively wealthy. these are people who are happy to live in their vans for long periods of time, who go without phones, who have 2-3 changes of clothes total, who eat one meal a day - and not every day. and this is not because they're lazy - they come here to work because the 30-150/week they can make as day laborers here is relative wealth i mexico. in sum, it's not sensible to glorify the united states for our enviable standard of living when that standard of living is built on the backs of slavery of the working poor in third world countries. now, as to whether or not gw bush believes what he does will give us liberty. i'm not sure if you're aware of the provisions of the patriot act nor of how much our liberty has shrunk during this administration: 1) the us government can now take your property without a warrant. 2) the us government can now hold your person without trial. 3) the us government can, apparently, now spy on you without a warrant. 4) the standard of presumption of innocence has been moved to rules of the administrative branch which are decided without congressional or judicial oversight (which means the police decide whether you're guilty or not, essentially, without a judge) for the purposes of administration of occasionally violent sanctions. president bush's administration has stood firmly behind these policies even though they are clearly anti-liberty. as for president bush's "long-term" leadership, the legacy that he'll be leaving us is: a $900 billion dollar debt that he alone created (clinton left a budget surplus); a war-torn country divided over lies about nuclear material in iraq; a fear-based government that puts security above liberty. i don't expect a president to be a reactionary or even to do the right thing -all the time-. i do expect them to do the right thing most of the time, i expect them not to lie to americans, not to spy on americans, not to steal from americans and not to kill americans in needless foreign wars. and in these respects, george bush has been the worst example of a president ever. From: blue state 2006-03-10 00:00:00 wow!! bill frist (r-tenn) is trying to save his buddy bush from having to answer to anyone for anything. why is it that these backwoods people can't understand that if bush had to go out of his way to exonerate any of them for anything, tough shit!! you're on you're own. such as the case with jack abramoff, who, now is on his own, nobody in washington ever has heard of him. this is to m.d. bill frist, wake up pal, bush is not your buddy, he will use you as long as it benefits him, after that, he will not admit to ever having known you!!! From: Freind 2006-03-09 00:00:00 please don't take offense i'm not judging you. i don't know you. i'm just replying your opinion... i'm not trying to insult you. you are my brother on earth. peace man. i really don't think i’m better than anybody else. i am confident in what i believe. no insults are intended. god be with you sir. From: Freind 2006-03-09 00:00:00 thanks for your reply. your are thoughtful. i agree with you and the bible. i just don't see anywhere where it says that we must be forced to pay the unfortunate and sometimes "unwilling" through taxes. that is oppressive. i'm happy to give voluntarily though. better yet, to volunteer to help build a house for them who choose to also participate. what a positive program! i just don’t go for a program that steals from the people who earn the money. it’s their money; they earned it the right way “most” of the time. it’s just not right to steal and mislead the way these programs tend to make these unfortunate people believe. that will only weaken america. yes, i agree with christ & always will. i ask myself “why are mexican, chinese & etc. still flocking to the u.s…. to be oppressed?” i really believe that there is a honest way out of poverty if you are willing. but, not through government programs or welfare, through purpose, determination, faith and a positive attitude. i happens daily. that is the proof for me. i expect a strong leader like g.w. bush who governs for the long run and does what he believes give us liberty, not a superhero to come “save the day” just to be fair or a poll taker reactionary who governs on daily poll trends. thanks again for you effort. thanks for reading other opinions. god bless and keep praying, friend From: Robbie 2006-03-09 00:00:00 secondly, it's rather insulting and childish to for you to make presumptions about my relationship with god given that you don't know me, but your presumption that somehow my relationship with god isn't as good as yours is insulting and childish and much more offensive than my -ssertion that you were acting as a political propagandist. |
