Nepotism is Never a Good Idea

Last year, Federal Communications Commissioner Chairman Michael Powell called for public hearings after millions of Americans decried his gutting of media ownership rules. Now he's a no-show, with a sudden "scheduling conflict" just one day before his official FCC hearing to listen to public concerns.

This is an outrage. At the last hearing in San Antonio, Texas, a rowdy crowd of hundreds gave Powell a lashing that lasted nearly 7 hours. Big Media representatives cracked under audience pressure. Powell was put to shame, and he's afraid it will happen again. Let's make sure it does.

Today we are launching a national campaign to gather 500,000 signatures demanding local FCC hearings in every state in America.

Second, pass this to your friends, your colleagues, everyone you know who wants local, skeptical, diverse and competitive media.

P.S.: A U.S. Court of Appeals will decide the fate of Powell's media ownership rules within the next month or so. Stay tuned for more information.
