Impeach George Bush

Estrada Defeated

In a two-year-long Battle, Estrada is withdrawn from consideration as a Judicial Appointee.

Candidate: Judiciary

Miguel Estrada, a conservative Hispanic attorney, dropped his bid for a federal judgeship on Thursday in face of a 2-year-old Democratic wall of opposition in a divided U.S. Senate.

At Estrada's request, President Bush withdrew the nomination, voicing regret and accusing Senate Democrats of "disgraceful treatment."

The action was seen as a major victory for Democrats, who had charged that Estrada was part of Bush's attempt to pack the federal courts with right-wing ideologues. They quickly suggested that the Republican president offer more "mainstream" nominees in the future.

Estrada, tired of waiting for a confirmation vote, wrote Bush: "I believe that the time has come to return my full attention to the practice of law, and to regain the ability to make long-term plans for my family."

A majority of the 100-member, Republican-led Senate supported Bush's nomination of Estrada to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.

the bush court appointments are a case in point of
the shameful disengenuousness of the
republicans.
under their leadership, the
republican senate refused to even hear from
clinton appointees.
the democrats gave
estrada a chance to testify to his record.

he was either unable or unwilling to do so.
what? was he ashamed of himself?
