![]() Impeach George Bush World Bank Doesn't GET IT. We don't WANT Globalization. Source: TheTip, 2002-09-25 Candidate: WTO Kenneth Rogoff, a spokesperson for the IMF and World Bank has completely missed the point of the anti-globalization movement. Globalization allows our politicians and bankers to better hedge their bets against particular choices of nations by bypassing the legal and economic systems of individual governments. His contemptuous attitude toward democracy, self-rule and personal and local liberty are shown in his audacious statement: "Excessive economic isolation and state intervention imply poverty for the masses and privilege for the few. The process of globalization needs to be strengthened, its benefits broadened, but it should not be reversed." Which is not only a lie, but a bad lie at that. It is only with the rise of global capital investment firms and their WMF that the concentration of wealth and bypassing of local and state governments has allowed the wealthy of the world to better gain control of the entire world economy. "We recognize your idealism and your passion for a fairer and more just world," Rogoff told reporters, referring to protesters expected to converge in Washington during this week's annual meeting of the IMF and World Bank. "If you care to listen, you will probably find that we share some of your ideas about improving the process of globalization. You might even find that you share some of ours," he said. But why would we WANT to improve the process of giving up our local power and freedom? Add a comment to this Message in our Forums. While you're at it, check out our forums too!
