![]() Impeach George Bush California Williams Settlement is Baloney Williams and four other power generators as well as a slew of distributors colluded to screw the California people out of cash and future taxes during the 2001 energy crisis, and our State government does nothing to help. Only the people can settle this one with a real class action lawsuit. Source: TheTip, 2002-12-03 Candidate: Enron Duke, Dynegy, Reliant, Williams, El Paso, and a few other politically connected energy distribution and production firms screwed Californians out of billions of dollars in cash in 2001 during the manufactured energy crisis. The crisis was manufactured so that those carriers could raise their prices and get retail and wholesale energy buyers to pay as much as 1500 Times the normal rate for energy from the previous six months. The State of California sued Williams, one of the perps, to recover some of the money lost, but no money will be put back in to the hands of the people, or into the coffers of the state. Instead, Williams continues to be the benefactor of a sweetheart deal that guarantees them billions in revenues over the next ten years. The California Supreme court dismissed a case last year in which a consumer group brought suit against the Gas Companies (Exxon, Mobil, ARCO, etc.) for colluding to raise prices during the energy crisis, but it looks like the only problem was the wrong targets. El Paso corporation has already been convicted of illegal price-fixing, and they're not alone, but making them pay the people of California back for the money they stole is a matter for the courts.
