![]() Impeach George Bush Is Health Care the same as Health Insurance? Discriminating voters must alert themselves to the topic of conversation. Dennis Kucinich talks about Health Care. Hillary Clinton talks about Health Insurance. Which one do you want? Source: Linda Lindauer, 2007-09-24 Candidate: Big Business A continuing theme of modern American government seems to be to empower corporations by requiring Americans to purchase what the government tells us we need. In this case, we're being told we want/need Health Insurance. In fact, what we want/need is Health. And when we have a need, we want Health Care. I don't know anyone who wants Health Insurance. Hillary Clinton is back tracking in order to avoid the accusation of socializing medicine. Listen to what she says: The Bait "And today, as we strive for a new beginning to the 21st century, I believe everyone, every man, woman and child, should have quality, affordable health care in America." The Switch "First, I think we have all learned that America needs to provide health insurance for all Americans." Whoa, what, what happened. I thought we were talking about Health Care, and then the subject is switched to Health Insurance. And it stays there. "If you have private insurance you like, nothing changes -- you can keep that insurance. If you like the doctor you have, you can keep seeing that doctor. If you like the hospital where you receive care, you can keep receiving care at that hospital. If, however, you don't have health insurance or you don't like the insurance you have, you can choose from the same wide variety of private plans that members of Congress choose from." Dennis Kucinich has a Health Care Plan. His does not include insurance companies. His is about Health Care, not Health Insurance. Kucinich said Clinton's plan involves combining public and private resources to help purchase insurance coverage from for-profit businesses. "Who wins with that? The insurance companies," Kucinich said. "I don't know if it has any connection to the fact that she (Clinton) is the No. 2 recipient in the entire Congress of money from health insurance companies. But I imagine if they didn't like it, they wouldn't give her money." Kucinich said his own plan would do away with health insurance entirely, with the federal government footing the bill for any medical care needed by the people. Of course Republicans aren't talking about Health Care at all. So I don't go there. But if we're going to talk about Health Care, let's keep on topic. I can think of no reason to continue to provide Insurance Companies with record profits. October 24, 2005 – The nation's HMOs1 reported a $3.6 billion profit for the first three months of 2005, representing a $646 million, or 21.4 percent, increase over the $3.0 billion earned during the first quarter of 2004, according to Weiss Ratings, Inc., the nation's leading independent provider of ratings and analyses of financial services companies, mutual funds, and stocks. While the 21.4 percent profit increase still represents strong growth for the industry, it is considerably less than other recent first-quarter increases, including 152.7 percent in 2002, 60.9 percent in 2003, and 32.9 percent in 2004. As corporations, HMOs have only one goal, to make ever increasing profits. If that means paying for less healthcare, then so be it. As individuals, our goal is to live healthily. Obviously our goals are at odds with that of the HMOs. Why oh why must we actually PAY these folks for what we don't want? Take time to read about the Health Care Plans presented to us by the candidates for POTUS. Don't bother looking at the Repugs; afterall, Bush's Secretary of Health and Human Services, Mike Leavitt, was, before appointed by Bush, the leading Health Insurance Salesman in the country.
