![]() Impeach George Bush “We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.” The base of the Democratic Party wants an end to the Iraq war. The base of the Republican Party wants and end to the epidemic of abortions. Both parties made promises they haven't kept. Who's calling who fooled? Source: Linda Lindauer, 2007-09-23 Candidate: TheTIP I've been anti-war since 1963 when I became politically aware. I've marched, written letters, supported protestors and anti-war movements in time and treasure. And I've supported anti-war candidates like McCarthy, McGovern, and most recently, Kerry. Where has all that gotten me? I'm told we're still fighting wars in 72 countries around the globe. I don't think the anti-war movement is making much of an impact on powerful people in powerful places. I've been anti-abortion since 1973 when Roe v Wade made it legal. Until then, most of my friends who were pregnant before they got married either had the baby and got married, had the baby and raised it as a single parent, or had the baby and released it for adoption. I didn't know anyone who had an abortion. Abortion was not a single issue for me because I believe blessing the living by fighting poverty, ignorance, disease, war, is something I can do. Convincing someone to keep a baby to term is not something I can control. Both war and abortion are important issues for me. The strange thing is, no matter who is elected, nothing is done about either issue. We're dopes and we're being duped by both Republicans and Democrats. Neither party has any intention of actually serving up solutions to its base because it keeps the issue alive. The important thing is the issue. Amreicans need a different strategy if we're going to change the outcome. Whoever said it - insanity is doing the same thing over and over while expecting a different outcome - they were right. Voting for a Democrat or Republican doesn't get the job done. We need different options and we need to take them. President Harry Truman was the first to put forward a Universal Health Plan for America in 1945. Do we realize how long ago that was? Sixty-two years!! Just think of how many other countries have picked-up on his great idea and run with it while America is left in the dust. We are now debating universal health insurance, not health care. Good grief. President Bill Clinton's "Bridge to the 21st Century" was a hopeful, forward looking platform for 1996. I hoped, as history turned a page, we could write a century unbloodied by war. I hoped we could turn out collective efforts to healing disease, wiping out poverty and famine, replacing ignorance with easily accessible information via the internet. Unfortunately, Clinton was replaced by Bush, a Neanderthal if ever there was one. He possesses no imagination, no creativity; even the Neanderthal's would have recognizeed him as stunted, backward. Bush has only one answer to every question: Kill it. Well, we need different answers. Only Congressman Ron Paul among the Republicans is offering a different solution. http://www.ronpaul2008.com/ Only Congressman Dennis Kucinich is offering a different solution among the Democrats. http://www.dennis4president.com/go/issues/ Can we convince these two guys to run together? Between them we may yet get ourselves out of this mess. Add a comment to this Message in our Forums. While you're at it, check out our forums too! User Originated Comments: |
