Metaphors

It has been argued that when Al Qaeda attacked America on 9/11, 3,000 innocent civilians were killed. But another picture develops when viewed from Al Qaeda's perspective. What are they trying to tell us now?

Source: The TIP, 2005-02-06

Candidate: Big Business

When Americans claim Innocence in the face of 9/11, clearly the import of the attacks are deliberately ignored.

C'mon...The WORLD TRADE CENTER??? PENTAGON??? Perhaps the WHITE HOUSE???

These are all three very particular, iconate, targets: The Great Satan, Home of Mammon, that threatens world peace, from their perspective. Al Qaeda was obviously not only attacking its enemy, but attacking it at its core. The tragic consequence were the deaths of the people inhabiting the buidings that were are the symbols the lives and lifestyles at odds with fundamental Islam.
Perhaps, even more tragically from their point of view, were the firemen and police who died attempting to save lives.

Missing the metaphor can only be deliberate.

Last week, perhaps another metaphor appeared in camera, in the form of a GI Joe-like doll. Appearing on Al Jazeera, the West took the photograph as a threat to kill a kidnapped American. But was it?

More likely, the GI Joe is another metaphor for the
American soldiers being killed in Iraq by... insurgents? al Qaeda? We're not entirely sure.

What we are sure about is the enemy is multiplying. Just over a year ago, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld estimated the number of insurgents as 20 men, probably non-Iraqis, who entered Iraq to make trouble. Today, after a year of killing and imprisoning thousands of insurgents, Rumsfeld admits their numbers have swelled to at least 20,000 and that their ranks include Iraqis of every stripe.

While these insurgents are willingly killing and dying for their cause, the homegrown troops trained by Americans regularly lay down their arms and run from their posts. Rumsfeld equivocates concerning their effectiveness and refuses to answer questions about when the Iraqis will be ready to defend their country, to police their own land, a job they were perfectly capable of doing just two years ago.

Americans can continue to play blind-man's-bluff, but the rest of the world isn't so easily f
ooled.

It's time we woke up to who we are, strangers in a strange land. If we want to own the country, admit it and take it. If not, come home.

any conservative out there with the ability to
face difficulty with spirit and courage? please
stand up!

we are now accepting apologies
for the disrespect and insults thrown at us for
accusing the bush administration for hiding the
now discovered facts (52 warnings to be exact)that
the wtc attacks were very well known to them
before 9/11.

can't blame micheal moore for this
one!

never got that relationship of a
"movie director and the faith of america" argument
anyway. i did not hear any democrat blaming george
lucas for smirkys adventures to
mars.

you never know what you're getting with bush.
comp-ssionate conservative. he's not
comp-ssionate, and his deficit is not
conservative. who would vote for war just to
spread democracy? if you're a nation seeking
democracy, do it with your own army and your own
money. it's not america's job. regardless bush
said it was about wmd, which is a lie. i have bad
news for you husker du, unless you're a
multi-millionaire who donates hundreds of
thousands to the bush machine, you're not one of
his people either. as proven in 2000, a majority
voted for gore. so now who's being ignorant.

in this time and in this
country with all of it's corruption, sometimes
fantasies are truly a basis of some edge of the
reality it derives from

and now for the
evening news "live from the pentagon" ( a
broadcast breakthrough for millions of americans
to see the "real news interfaced with lies" )...
alls wonderful in our invasion of iraqi, showered
with flowers and democracy everywhere, even so
greatly that they have forgotten how much burial
grounds we left them and all for oil. here is your
fantasy that you may choose to believe in.

now you know as well as
everyone does that gwb didn't win without
fraud.

not sure if you are an american
native and the age of your elderly body, but
you're so precious in thought to express your
devine admiration for this p-"resident" that
doesn't and won't have the comp-ssion to give back
to you.

one day you will see what and why
we are all here... so be patient and don't worry
about the smaller issues such as food rations for
voters registration, there is so much more corrupt
items and issues springing everyday and it is so
wonderful that we all get to voice our opinion.
